50 Years of Commitment to Children

For over seven decades, World Vision India has walked alongside children, families, and communities across the country—quietly shaping pathways to a better future. This year marks a defining milestone—50 years as a registered society, and 75 years of impact in India. What began in 1951 as a small act of generosity has grown into a nationwide presence, reaching over 3 lakh children and their families across 20 states and one Union Territory.

A journey proudly shaped by trust—built over time through consistent presence, meaningful partnerships, and unwavering support. As we reflect on this milestone, our commitment to children remains unchanged—rooted in purpose, and firmly focused on the future.

Anusha grew up in Bellary’s Venkataramanagar slum, where opportunities were limited but her dreams were boundless. Through World Vision India’s Child Sponsorship programme, she received educational support, timely guidance, and a laptop that enabled her to continue learning. With determination and hard work, Anusha excelled academically and graduated with honours in Civil Engineering. Her perseverance led her to pursue higher education and secure a position at L&T Pvt. Ankit, from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, dreamed of joining the armed forces since Class 8. With minimal resources, his path was uncertain. World Vision India supported him with a bicycle, school bag, and solar light—making school accessible and study possible. Though he faced setbacks after Class 12, Ankit didn’t give up. In 2023, he succeeded in joining the Indian Air Force. For him, wearing the uniform symbolises honour and stability. “World Vision India was like a second family,” he says. His journey proves that with determination and support, even distant dreams can take flight. “Focus and keep moving forward,” he advises.

Arun’s path to wellness went beyond physical health — it involved cultivating mental strength and unwavering hope in the face of adversity.

Growing up in a family struggling with poverty, Arun could have easily given in to despair. But instead, he chose to believe in the possibility of a better future, focusing on the power of a positive mindset. His transformation wasn’t instantaneous, but every small step forward was rooted in his belief that change was possible.

When World Vision India stepped in, it wasn’t just financial support that made a difference — it was a partnership that helped Arun align his mental resilience with the resources needed to thrive.

Pavitra, a determined 19-year-old, is a beacon of hope in her family. Sponsored by World Vision India, she is currently pursuing her BBA and has successfully cleared her first semester with impressive grades. Before receiving support, Pavitra faced the harsh reality of being barred from exams due to unpaid college fees, a challenge that threatened to derail her dreams of higher education. But Pavitra’s determination has always been stronger than the obstacles in her path. In addition to her studies, she works as a teacher at Life Skill Training (LST), World Vision India’s training program that helps young people in the community develop practical skills for life and work. Balancing her role as a teacher with her studies was no easy feat, but Pavitra embraced the challenge with grit and perseverance. Now, Pavitra stands as a powerful symbol of resilience. Her journey is one of courage and hope, not just for herself, but for her entire family. She proves that with the right support, dreams that once seemed impossible can become reality. Her success has inspired others in her community to believe that they too can overcome obstacles and achieve their own dreams.

Sivasingaram, a devoted father to Nagamani and Harchand, faced the daily challenge of caring for his children, both of whom are living with mental disabilities. Determined to provide for them, he accepted two goats from World Vision India while continuing to work tirelessly as a daily wage labourer. Over time, the goats multiplied into a thriving herd of ten. When two goats began causing trouble, he sold them and reinvested in four more, creating a sustainable source of income.

Inspired by his success, Sivasingaram now plans to secure his children’s future by depositing his earnings into their bank accounts. Despite the challenges that arose due to a consanguineous (blood-relative) marriage, Sivasingaram’s resilience turned two goats into a small-scale business — bringing stability, dignity, and hope to his family.

Elina, a five-year-old child from Odisha, faced hardship as her father, a daily wage labourer, struggled to make ends meet. World Vision India's gift of sheep empowered the family, helping to break the cycle of poverty. This support has ensured Elina’s well-being and is paving the way for her education. Your vital support lights the path for children like Elina to thrive — both academically and beyond.

After receiving a sewing machine with support from World Vision India, I began stitching clothes and taking orders. I approached a nightwear shop, collected leftover fabric in bulk, and used it to create new garments. Inspired by my efforts, some of my neighbours have also started similar businesses.

Now, I earn ₹325 per day, which enables me to care for my household, support my children and my elderly mother-in-law, and contribute to my family’s well-being. Thanks to the intervention of World Vision India, I am happy and able to lead my family towards a better future.

In my 25 years of association—which continues to this day—I have found World Vision India to be a scientifically organised and deeply committed charity. WV India works for and among the marginalised and dispossessed across the country. Its focus on education, sanitation, and disaster relief reaches communities in need, irrespective of caste, creed, race, or background. I am proud to be associated with an organisation that delivers support with such integrity and purpose.

I came to know about World Vision India through a friend in 1994. I began sponsoring a girl child on my son’s birthday as a tribute to my late mother, who was passionate about girls’ education. Over the years, I have sponsored two girls and continue to do so. It has been a deeply fulfilling journey with World Vision India. The organisation’s professionalism and commitment to transforming lives inspire great confidence.

I wish the team continued success in this noble work and hope to remain part of this mission for as long as I can.

During these 25 years of association with World Vision India, I have had a wonderful experience. I regularly get updates and progress reports of my sponsored children. The organisation is really making a change in people's lives, especially for underprivileged communities. Even during times of crisis, they do great work by helping those who suffer. I am happy to be part of this initiative and to support the work of World Vision India.
