World Vision India is one of the country’s largest child-focused humanitarian organisations. With over seven decades of grassroots experience, we use proven and effective development, public engagement and relief practices to empower vulnerable children and communities living in poverty and injustice, helping them become self-sufficient and bring lasting change.
We serve all children regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender, as a demonstration of Christ’s unconditional love for all people.
World Vision India works to ensure the long-term well-being of children living in poverty by improving their access to healthcare, education, protection and opportunities to participate in society. To make our efforts sustainable, we support not only individual children but also their families and communities. Recognising the importance of socio-economic empowerment, our community-based approach includes a wide range of programmes in economic development, education, health and leadership development.
We work closely with community-based organisations, government bodies, NGOs and civil society groups to provide holistic support. We also partner with local, state and central governments, as well as academic institutions and other NGOs, to strengthen policies, structures and systems.
Additionally, we respond to natural disasters. For example, we provided critical support to children and families affected by Cyclone Michaung. Our involvement in disaster response dates to the 1977 cyclone in Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
Starting in 1958 in Kolkata, World Vision India has grown into the country's leading grassroots child-focused organisation. We now work in 111 districts across 22 states and 1 union territory, impacting around 3 lakh children and their families in over 1,113 communities. With more than 70 years of experience, we continue to use proven development practices to empower vulnerable children and communities towards self-reliance and lasting change.
Yes. World Vision India is registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Act 1975. Our National Office is based in Chennai.
